As a business woman, this leaves me wondering... Is this a general change in the hobby economy? I know these things have a natural ebb and flow, but I like to offer what my clients want.

I've been away for a while, but have looked in periodically to see how things are going here. I see that the board seems a bit more quiet. But over all, I like the feel, and see a lot of great providers posting ads.

I have a few things to share here. I will do my best to stick to the facts, and share just a minimum of my thoughts on what went down.

There are those who will probably want to call bullshit on this, or come in and get their shots in. Whatever. I know I have my haters - probably many more than when I was running the board.

In the Fall last year, I had come to a point of not wanting this life anymore. There were big changes going on in my personal life, and demands at work both of which did not resonate in any way with what I was doing here.

This was not long after the TRB resurrection.

I was feeling pretty isolated, in spite of the team I had assembled, and saw only two options.

Choice #1: Shut the board down.
Choice #2: Have Veronica take it over.

The idea of shutting the board down did not appeal to me at all. First, there were so many people here who loved the board, and had made their home here. Second - I'm just too damn competitive to even entertain the idea of "throwing in the towel".

From my perspective, at the time, turning the board over to Veronica was like playing the trump card. I could get out clean, and know that someone who had run another board competently (THH -a board that I liked) was going to take my baby forward and keep it in the game.

It was a no-brainer. So I moved forward with this.

Tammy absolutely hated this idea. I couldn't understand why at the time, and tried to get her and Veronica talking, hoping that they would find a way to work together.

Then things seemed to settle down as we started the process of transition. It was not absent of the requisite board drama, but that was all.

Then, one day, I get an IM from Tammy. She was telling me that she was no longer going to take collections at the lunches for Veronica. My first thought was, "you'd taken collections for me at lunches many times over the past year, so what was the difference!?".

Before I knew it, I was getting texts and emails from both Tammy and Veronica, basically dragging me into the middle of it. Now I was already beyond burned out at this point.

As far as I was concerned, I'd turned the board over to Veronica. It was her board for better or worse.

Now, if it is me running the board, and someone who is supposed to be helping me turns on me, I cut them loose. Veronica thought I could talk to Tammy. But from where I was standing, there was no talking to her - she had pretty much made up her mind that she was not going to work with Veronica.

Moreover, she was going to do whatever she could to make trouble for Veronica.

My advice to Veronica - "Fire Tammy". Because if I'd been in her shoes, that is exactly what I would have done.

After that, I bailed completely out of here. I had wanted to stay around and work on the site a bit longer, but I felt like so much shit for having to get into the middle of that and make the hard decision.

For a short time, I found myself questioning the decision to turn the board over to Veronica. I kind of felt pulled in two directions and went through some conflict.

But in the end, I looked back and saw a pattern here at Top Hat that had included my predecessor being brought in, followed by myself being brought in, and then at last, a successor who was almost brought in.

I felt used, to some degree - as in who's agenda was being served by my being asked to take over when Tele was leaving?

It is just now that I'm reading some of what went down immediately afterward. Glad I missed it back then.
